I'm afraid I'm that guy... are you sure it doesn't change faster if you press it a bunch of times? Or even press and hold the button?! The elevator thing is funny, though, people can be so dumb sometimes. ;)
If I were designing these systems, I would make things work faster if you mash the button over and over. That or have a built in speaker that calls you a douche.
