Three years ago, a friend and I started a Facebook group dedicated to these videos we used to make. You see, it was the summer, and we had gone separate ways. He at a writing camp, me at home. So we kept in touch via Facebook video posts on each others walls. Someone thought we were funny, and that we should start a group, so we did.
Early on, a girl joined the group, because she thought we were funny. She was from Turkey, and we were mystified as to how she randomly found our group out of thousands, and joined up. Turns out, she loved photography, and both of us had quite a bit in common. We would occasionally update each other on how life was going.
Then, she told me that she was thinking about coming to the U.S. to study. Eventually she settled on The Art Institute in Chicago, right in my backyard. Then, my U of I fiasco happened, and now I'm at Columbia.
Today was the first day we'd ever met. Sometimes the world is a pretty cool place.
