Haha! I'll bet you expected a comic. No dice, fan(s?).

I had to go on a trip around campus taking photographs of various architectural and natural elements for a class project, a sort of booklet of visual experience, and I ended up taking some pictures of some of the better graffiti on campus. I'm a proponent of graffiti, and can't wait to do some stenciling of my own next semester.

That aside, I can't stand graffiti on historical buildings, both here on campus and elsewhere. Foellinger Auditorium, Gregory Hall and Lincoln Hall, for example, are testaments to pride in craftsmanship. They were constructed in the era before convenience had slain aesthetics. Modern architecture is detestable. Just because a stone ornament can be extruded out of a machine instead of carved doesn't mean it should be.

Anyway, here are some of the stencils I've seen on campus:

This piece stretches over half of a chemistry building, in between a series of windows that run along the ground.

These are miscellaneous tags that have been popping up more and more frequently. I encourage it:

  1. no tag of Ibsen? alas, this is a shame. I actually had a conversation with someone not too long ago about how I hate seeing graffiti on foellinger... despite the fact that, I, too, love tags.
